10 on 10 | august
August 10, 2011
i’ve been making a few big steps toward better documenting my own family (aka my girls… we all know that parents get very little love from the camera). i recently purchased a film camera in hopes of finding the art in my personal photos. it’s (surprisingly) incredibly helpful for me to be limited to the exposures on a roll of film. i photograph more thoughtfully without the unlimited shutter clicks of my digital slr.
i’ve also teamed up with an awesome group of women from the bloom forum for a 10 on 10 project. our goal is to post 10 personal images on the 10th of each month. the original challenge was to portray 10 hours of a regular day, but i’ve strayed a bit from that aspect of the challenge this time… these images were all taken within a two-day span and i was just aiming to document more of who and how my girls are at this time. there are 10 of us (surprise!) participating. follow the link at the end of this post for the next 10 on 10 project :)
logan just turned 6. she loves the camera!
avery just turned 4. she likes to do her own thing and i’m lucky to catch a great picture of her smiling.
this one totally reminds me of 40 year old virgin… anyone else???
these bathtime images are a perfect illustration of their different personalities… avery is quiet, reserved, sweet and loving.

and logan can fake-laugh with the best of them, is incredibly social and always looking to show you her latest performance.

head on over to jayme franklin’s blog to see her 10 on 10 images for the month!

I’m a new fan! Did you shoot these with film?
mary, yep! this is my first roll of film in a looong time (and first roll knowing how to shoot manual). i do love it – especially the lack of need to edit :)
adore them all!!
Oh Jasmine.. I adore all of these!!! What spectacular use of your film camera. I have a Nikon F.. very old but dying to use it and join you all on the Film forum posts. My light meter is broken and I haven’t had a chance to get it fixed. :(
Your girls are so precious.. GORGEOUS!! Such infectious laughter and joy from them both! Looking forward to getting to know you!
Jasmine these are all absolutely gorgeous. The BW film has captured an essence that I don’t think digital could have. I shot WAY TOO many photos for this project and decided after the day was over and I uploaded my card, that I was going to dust off my film camera, and shoot film for this project. Do you mind sharing what film you used?
I am excited to share this project with you and can’t wait to learn more about you and your family over the coming months.
Absolutely – it’s just regular Kodak BW ISO 400 for C-41 processing (so you can develop at Costco or the drug store – BW chemicals not required). I had it sitting on my shelf to try out for my first roll :) I think a roll of film in a day is an awesome way to limit ourselves… and make this project exciting and thoughtful rather than en editing chore :)
Wow! Jasmine…love, love, love the black and whites. Your children are so photogenic..I”m jealous! Can’t wait to see more!
Oh, my, heavens. I love each and every single one!!! I think the shadow sidewalk and the last cackle one are my favorites though. I haven’t seen your girls in a long while and it is neat to ‘catch up’ with them with these awesome images!
Jasmine – love these!! They are so beautiful and showcase their personalities perfectly. I am also planning to play with film. IMy rolls were delivered last week but can’t get up the nerve to try it out. I really have no idea where to begin… These turned out great!
Love how you captured their personalities in these. That wavy hair and freckles melt my heart. Great job on your comeback to film. Looking forward to these monthly posts!
